Our Lady of Light, a painting by world renowned Russian artist Natalia Tsarkvoa, will be on display at Christendom College’s St. John the Evangelist Library in Front Royal, Va., beginning on February 21, at 8:00 p.m. The oil portrait display is sponsored by the College’s Beato Fra Angelico Fine Arts Program in conjunction with the Primavera Fine Art Foundation’s Our Lady of Light International Tour.
Our Lady of Light, which received the apostolic blessing of the late Pope John Paul II, captures an image of the Virgin Mary holding the child Jesus, surrounded by angels. Tsarkvoa, who paints in a neo-classical style, holds the honor of being commissioned to paint the only official portraits of Pope John Paul I, Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI. These portraits are on display in the Vatican Museums in Rome.
Christendom’s Beato Fra Angelico Fine Arts Program offers students an opportunity to experience directly the beauty of God in the aesthetic fruits of Western Civilization through live performances and on-campus events. This program has sponsored a number of art exhibits and displays in the past, most recently, “Redeeming Beauty: Religious Works of Contemporary Artists,” a traveling art exhibit sponsored by The Foundation for Sacred Arts.
The Primavera Fine Art Foundation is a non-profit organization which seeks to commission works of fine theological art as a means of creating a renaissance of fine art in the Church and society.
The painting will be on display until March 8 and the public is cordially invited to view this work of art. For more information about this event, please contact Nathan Scott at email@example.com.
