On Monday, April 4, Dr. Gerard Wegemer, a professor in the English Department at the University of Dallas, will deliver a lecture entitled “Thomas More on the Liberal Arts: How He Brought the Renaissance to England.” The lecture will begin at 4 p.m. in St. Kilian’s Café, and will be followed by a brief reception.
Wegemer is the Director of the Center for Thomas More Studies. He has published many articles and books on the English Renaissance and St. Thomas More, and has served as a member of the Board of Editors for Moreana, the international journal on Thomas More and his times. Dr. Wegemer has graduate degrees in political philosophy and Renaissance literature from the University of Notre Dame, Boston College, and Georgetown University. He co-authored A Thomas More Sourcebook (CUA 2004), and wroteThomas More on Statesmanship (CUA 1996), Thomas More: A Portrait of Courage (Scepter 1995), and The Sadness of Christ: And Final Prayers and Instructions, by Saint Thomas More (Scepter 1993). Dr. Wegemer’s latest book, Young Thomas More and the Arts of Liberty is due to be published this year by Cambridge University Press.
