Christendom College to Hold Fifth Annual Golf Tournament

September 11, 2014

IMG_0377Christendom will hold its fifth annual Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club in Front Royal, Virginia. The tournament, which marks the start of Christendom’s Homecoming Weekend festivities, raises funds for the Thomas S. Vander Woude Scholar-Athlete Scholarship.

Participants will enjoy a day full of golf and good food at the beautiful Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club, ranked by Golfweek Magazine as “#3 Best Course you can play in Virginia.”  Players will enjoy numerous competitions during the course of the day including “Win a Car with a Hole in One.”  Prizes include vacation packages, sports apparel, golf equipment, and much more.

“I am very excited to reach this milestone of the fifth year of the Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Golf Tournament,” Acting Dean of Student Life and tournament organizer Chris Vander Woude says. “The success of the scholarship fund and the golf tournament is due to so many generous supporters. After the deluge last year, which didn’t deter the 125 golfers, I am very hopeful for great weather to continue this event, which has turned into such a positive for the entire Christendom community and its supporters. Blue Ridge Shadows is always in great shape for the tournament and it is just an awesome way to kick off homecoming weekend.”

Each year, the tournament raises more than $10,000 for the Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Scholar-Athlete Scholarship, a program that offers exceptional student-athletes the chance to attend Christendom College.

Former Athletic Director Tom Vander Woude―for whom the scholarship is named―died saving the life of his youngest son on September 8, 2008. He was dedicated to the character development and personal formation of young people, especially in the areas of both intercollegiate and intramural athletics. Recipients of the scholarship are given the opportunity, as Thomas Vander Woude believed, to be formed mentally, spiritually, and physically. The scholarship is awarded to two incoming freshmen each year, as funds permit.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available. To become a sponsor or register for the event, visit https://www.christendom.edu/athletics/tournament.php. Payment by cash, check or credit card will be accepted on the day of the event, but registration before October 5th is highly encouraged.
