Christendom’s rugby team is off to a strong start this year, winning the Collegiate Men’s Division Plate at the New York Sevens Rugby Tournament on November 29 at Randall’s Island, New York City.
Now in its 55th year, the New York Sevens tournament is the largest and oldest Sevens tournament in the nation. There are three levels of tournament winners: cup, plate and bowl. Despite having had little previous experience playing in a rugby Sevens tournament, the Crusaders won three out of their first four games, falling only to Stony Brook University. The team then advanced to the semi-finals of the Plate round, winning both of its games to capture the title.
The Crusaders, who have defeated larger schools in the past, such as George Mason University, American University, and Hamden-Sydney College, are excited by this tournament victory and look forward to a great season.
