The Lady Crusaders soccer team returned to the field on Wednesday, September 2, playing before an enthusiastic crowd on Crusader Fields. Playing Penn State Mont Alto in their opening day match, the Lady Crusaders scored early and shutout Penn State over the course of ninety minutes, winning 4-0.
Coming off an impressive 10-4 record last season, including crushing victories against NCAA Division III schools, the Lady Crusaders lit up the new Crusader scoreboard Wednesday night. Sophomore Catherine Gaetano, the leading scorer for the women’s soccer team last season, scored the first goal of the game, giving the whole team momentum for the rest of the game.
Sophomore Bryn Burgess and junior Anne Nelson tallied the score up as well, adding three more goals before the ninety minutes were complete. The defensive line of the Lady Crusaders, especially sophomore Madeline Hill as keeper, held strong against the speed of Penn State’s forwards and ended the game with a shutout.
With this first win under their belt, the Lady Crusaders look forward to playing again on September 5 at Sweet Briar College, before returning home on September 14. For more information, please visit christendomathletics.com.
