Christendom College to Hold Sixth Annual Golf Tournament

September 17, 2015

golf15-2Christendom will hold its sixth annual Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, October 9 at the Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club in Front Royal, Va. The tournament, which marks the start of Christendom’s annual Homecoming Weekend festivities, raises funds for the Thomas S. Vander Woude Athletic Scholarship.

Participants will enjoy a day full of golf, a BBQ luncheon, and the chance to compete against fellow alumni at the beautiful Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club, ranked by Golfweek Magazine as the “#3 Best Course you can play in Virginia.”  Players will enjoy numerous competitions during the course of the day, such as “Win a Car with a Hole in One” and the “East vs. West Challenge.”  Prizes include vacation packages, sports apparel, golf equipment, and much more.

Each year, the tournament raises more than $10,000 for the Thomas S. Vander Woude Athletic Scholarship, a program that offers exceptional student-athletes the chance to attend Christendom College.

“I am thrilled that we are already on our sixth year of the golf tournament named in memory of my Dad. He loved each minute he worked here at the college, especially his interaction with the students. This is why the golf tournament and the fund which it serves are so important — they continue Dad’s legacy by assisting scholar-athletes in attending Christendom and striving for greatness whether it be in the classroom, in the chapel or on the field,” says dean of student life Chris Vander Woude, who previously served as athletic director at the college for seven years.

“It is a testament to the generosity and support of all those that sponsor and participate in the tournament, and I’m looking forward to another record year,” says Vander Woude.

Former Athletic Director Thomas Vander Woude―for whom the scholarship is named―died saving the life of his youngest son on September 8, 2008. He was dedicated to the character development and personal formation of young people, especially in the areas of both intercollegiate and intramural athletics.

Recipients of the Thomas S. Vander Woude Athletic Scholarship are given the opportunity, as Thomas Vander Woude believed, to be formed mentally, spiritually, and physically. The scholarship is awarded to two incoming freshmen each year, as funds permit.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available. To become a sponsor or register for the event, visit
