Christendom College alumna Maria Bissex ’02 is bringing her dream of directing plays to life with the upcoming performances of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” to be held October 22, 23, and 24 at Sterling Middle School in Sterling, Virginia.
Bissex, who majored in English Language and Literature, who has always had a passion for the performance arts, is excited to have had the opportunity to adapt this classic story and to bring it to life on stage with the Sterling Playmakers, a non-profit 501(c)(3) community theatre organization in partnership with Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services and the Sterling Community Center founded in 1996.
According to the Playmakers’ website, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” takes place in a quiet town on the eastern shore of the Hudson River. Ichabod Crane, the schoolmaster with a voracious appetite and an obsession with witchcraft, falls for the pretty daughter of the town’s wealthiest landowner. But his attempts to woo Katrina van Tassel are repeatedly foiled by another jealous suitor, a mysterious stranger, and the ominous Headless Horseman.
