The Lady Crusaders softball team came out swinging against Trinity University on Tuesday, March 22, crushing the team in a double-header. Playing strong both behind the plate and on the mound, the women’s team dominated from the first pitch to the last under the lights at Bing Crosby Stadium, finishing the night with final scores of 17-0 and 21-3.
Taking home field against Trinity, the Crusaders jumped on the board early in the first inning of game, scoring four runs to start off the night. With junior Mary Solitario taking the mound and pitching well, the defense did their job to get out of each inning, with Trinity stranding base runner after base runner on the field.
The solid hitting of the Lady Crusaders resulted in seventeen runs scored by the end of the first game, highlighted by Bridget Handy’s in-the-park homerun in the fourth inning, and Solitario’s nine strikeouts on the mound. With the sun setting, the Lady Crusaders nabbed their first win of the season 17-0.
Playing under the lights before a large, cheering Christendom crowd for the second game, the Lady Crusaders picked up where they left off, with sisters Maggie and Annie Adams taking the mound for the game. The two combined for eight strikeouts in five innings, while offensively the Lady Crusaders racked up twenty hits with Annie Speer and Mary-Grace leading the way, with Speer hitting two doubles and Handy hitting two triples. After five innings, the final score was 21-3.
The Lady Crusaders’ next games are on Saturday, April 2 at home vs The University of Valley Forge at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
