Christendom’s highly successful rugby team will travel to nearby Washington, D.C., this weekend to compete in the 50th Annual Cherry Blossom Rugby Tournament. Competing against James Madison University, Salisbury College, and others during the two-day tournament held April 2-3, the Crusaders will play at Rosecroft Raceway beginning at 1:00 p.m on Saturday.
The Crusaders have played in the Cherry Blossom Tournament the past few years, earning the top seed in the tournament last year. They will look for their first Cherry Blossom trophy this weekend, beginning with three matches on Saturday, and more on Sunday, if they advance past their initial matches.
The Crusaders will enter the tournament with a current record of 11-3, after their incredible five-game sweep of the Four Leaf 15s Rugby Tournament in New York City last weekend, where they came away as tournament champions. Earlier this season, the Crusaders also pulled off a dominant comeback victory against #12 Duke University on their home turf, marking the latest big-name school the Crusaders have defeated handily over the past few years. After this weekend, the Crusaders will next play on April 9 at home against the University of Richmond, and in the annual Shield Match at home against Franciscan University of Steubenville on April 16.
