The college admissions office’s new initiative for first-time visiting high school seniors is getting a lot of people excited about visiting campus this year. Students can visit any time before March 31, 2018, either through a day or overnight visit, or during an Open House, to take advantage of receiving their choice of a $100 check or a $500 scholarship to attend Christendom.
The new initiative, which comes on the heels of other expansions to the college’s financial aid offerings, gives prospective students extra incentive to visit Christendom’s 200-acre campus in the Shenandoah Valley for the first time and experience the transformative power of the college’s unique Catholic liberal arts curriculum for themselves.
“The best way to discover if Christendom is right for you is to visit and experience it for yourself,” says director of admissions Sam Phillips. “Our time-tested, authentic Catholic liberal arts education transforms lives, and we want to make visiting our campus even easier for families. We understand that traveling long distances can be a hassle, so this initiative helps make it not just possible, but more affordable as well.”
The special offer is specifically for any high school senior who has never visited Christendom’s campus before.
“In general, 90% of our incoming students each year have made an official visit to campus at some point in their high school careers,” says Phillips, “and it was because of this visit that they decided to invest in a Christendom education. Most high school students who apply but do not end up enrolling, unfortunately, never came to campus to visit and see the countless possibilities afforded them at Christendom. Although Christendom is not for everyone, we would much rather someone experience first-hand what we offer, and then make an informed decision about their college education. This initiative will hopefully help prospective students with their very difficult college choice.”
Along with this new visit initiative, the college has made some adjustments to make its education more affordable in other ways. Its unique Scholarship Price Match Program, begun last year, gives students the opportunity to increase the amount of scholarship and aid they receive by submitting another college’s financial award offering, while its recently revised scholarship program now offers higher award amounts and new level of scholarship to allow more people to qualify for merit aid. Additionally, five full academic scholarships are also available for National Merit Scholarship finalists, while qualified students will be able to compete for the three full-tuition scholarships awarded from the Padre Pio Scholarship Competition to be held on March 17, 2018.
