What is your favorite
class to teach?
Its a tie between "Mariology" and "Doctrine"
Do you have any hobbies? Playing guitar, hiking, fishing, boating, biking, photography, making
videos, baseball, reading literature (favorite novel: Don Quixote),
poetry, blogging, reading about current events, and finally (although
I would not call this a "hobby", still it is the reality on
earth that I enjoy the most): being with my family.
What do you like
most about Christendom? The great intellectual vitality of this lofty
institution and the pervasive Catholic vision that informs everything
we do here; the students; the good fishing spots; the woods and trails;
I love all these things, but the central reality about Christendom is
Jesus, who mysteriously works among us, in us, through us, even in the
midst of all our bumbling and our crazy ideas--He really does hold us
all "together" and gives meaning to what we do here.
What are your ares
of expertise and/or research?
Fundamental Theology; Theological Anthropology; Mariology; Historical
and Theological Study of Our Lady of Guadalup; what I tentatively call
"the Theology of Mercy" (drafting a book on this topic); Ecumenism
(especially relations with the Eastern Orthodox Churches); Liturgical,
Theological, and Spiritual Traditions of the Eastern Churches (Byzantine,
Coptic, Syriac, Chaldean, Ethiopian, and Armenian); Medieval Theologians
(East and West); Patrology (especially the role of the Fathers in the
Development of Doctrine); Theology of John Paul II (Cardinal Arinze read
my recent article and called me an "expert" on John Paul II,
which is not TRUE, but which indicates at least that I have studied JPII
and am interested in him); Karl Rahner--and I am also working on a tribute
to a much greater Catholic thinker, Romano Guardini.
Where have you been published? "What is Christianity?" (a pamphlet, available
from the author).
Fishers of Men (Manassas, VA: Trinity Communications, 1986).
"Man in the Presence of Mystery: An Introduction to the Theological
Anthropology of Luigi Guissani," in Faith & Reason, XXIII:
3-4.

is Worthy of Love: John Paul II's Response to the Culture of Death"

the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Ecclesial Movement 'Communion and Liberation'"
in Marian Studies, vol LIV (2003).
The Created Person
and the Mystery of God (Bloomington, IN: 1st Books, 2003).The
book treats important themes in the philosophy of religion and apologetics.
After examining classical and contemporary arguments for the existence
of God and the problems of secularism, the book outlines the rational
foundations for the truth of Jesus Christ and the Church. It is available
from retail internet booksellers (eg. Amazon.com) as well as through the
publisher's website. Go to www.1stBooks.com/bookview/14624

"College
is one of the more important times in the formation
of one's mature personality and identity. I love being a college professor
because God can use me to help shape the lives of
many students and deepen their faith."
