Welcome to Christendom's Alumni E-Zine. If you have information that you would like to share with your fellow alumni, send it to Tom McFadden at tmcfadden@christendom.edu.

The Grapevine Online will be uploaded, depending on the amount of information sent to the editor, every month. It will have a couple of sections (when information is available), namely, Class Notes (your basic information on alumni babies, weddings, jobs, etc.), Calendar of Events, and Links to various recent stories about Christendom College and/or the Alumni of Christendom.

Of course, all comments, suggestions, and information should be sent to tmcfadden@christendom.edu.

Grapevine Online marks One Year Anniversary with Award in Excellence

Recognized by the IT industry leaders, the Christendom College Grapevine Online has been awarded the GFA Award for Internet Excellence in Communication and Design. Noting the wit, humor, and general interest of the site, GFA spokeswoman Gina Turrell says that "the Grapevine Online is quite different from other mainstream college alumni newsletters." Most newsletters, either in print or on the web, are geared more toward fundraising and presenting the image of the college to its alumni, adds Turrell. The creator and editor of the Grapevine Online is Christendom College's public relations specialist, Tom McFadden. "I'm just so happy to have received this award," said McFadden with a slight tear in his eye. "I've been working so hard for our alumni, trying to get them to feel attached to their alma mater, giving them a reason to have warm and fuzzy feelings about Christendom." McFadden, a 1990 graduate of Christendom, is amazingly unversed both in the English language and in computer technology. "I've never been one to read or brush up on vocabulary, but the words just kinda come out and I guess that's what people want. They always say that newspapers and newsletters should be written at a 10th grade reading level, and that's about when I stopped reading. So I guess I'm at the right level of learning to meet the needs of my constituents."

The GFA Award in Internet Excellence in Communication and Design is awarded each year to groups whose websites promote information and news, and who have a structure and design to their websites.

Alumni Giving Up

During Christendom's '00-'01 fiscal year (June 1-May 31), $15,176.76 was donated to the Alumni Scholarship Fund, coming from approximately 165 different gifts. The '01-'02 fiscal year brought in a whopping $28,009.13 from 534 gifts. Currently, the Alumni Scholarship Fund has brought in $10,382.68 from 149 gifts for the current fiscal year which is already six months over. Please try to remember to send money in for the Alumni Scholarship Fund over the next six months.

The monthly Alumni Donation Reply Card has been quite successful since its inception in May of 2001. Using this donation card, alumni can donate to either Christendom's operations fund or to the Alumni Scholarship Fund. Donors can fill in their credit card information on the donation reminder card and donate "worry free" forever, if they choose.

The fiscal year '01-'02 brought in $23,022.34 from 547 different gifts. Six months into this fiscal year, the donations are up to $4469.52 from 178 gifts. Please inform the Alumni Affairs Office if you would like to be taken off the monthly mailing OR if you would like to donate on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis.
