John-Paul
Jansen ('00) has decided to finish off the last month
of medical school away from Morgantown and in Peru (for an
International rotation). John-Paul, along with a couple other
medical students, spent time in a Catholic mission doing home
visits in Chimbote, a small fishing city north of Lima. During
this great experience, John-Paul was able to help out, practice
some spanish, and on weekends, his group had the chance to
visit some sites in Peru, like Machu Picchu, the Inca ruin
in the middle of the Andes (see photo). John-Paul will be
graduating this month from West Virginia School of Medicine
and he has been accepted at Kansas University in Kansas City
for residency in Internal Medicine starting in July. He hopes
later to do a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology (blood
diseases and cancer).
Jessica
Ciesla recently verified what many married women from
Christendom can attest to... wedding planning is
CRAZY.
"Whew. Its kinda like coordinating decorations for Christmas
formal all over again, but even more so. Fun . . . but very
time consuming and stressful." So next time we hear from
her, she will no longer be Jessica CIESLA, "Dont worry!
I will still be the same ol' me!" Jessica recently told
the Grapevine Online. Farewell Jessica Ciesla... waiting to
greet us next month... Jessica Schuetz. :o)
Colette
Sheiko (4 months old, see photo at right), daughter of Jeremy
and Mary Sheiko ('05)
Damian
and Katie F. ('94 & '95) were delighted to welcome
Serenity Cecilia Maria on March 27, 2007. She weighed 8 lb.5
oz, was 21.5 inches long and is the darling of her siblings,
Felicity, 11, Damian Joseph, 9, Christiana, 7, Angelina, 5
and Thomas, 2.
Damien
and Christy (Coy) Dodge would like to announce that
their firstborn, Phillip Alexander Stanley Dodge, finally
decided to make his entrance into the world! He came on Wednesday,
April 11th at 8:57 PM, and he was 7 lb. 8oz. and 21 inches
long. He is already the center of attention in their home,
with his parents and his grandparents (he is the first grandchild
on both sides so he will be spoiled rotten)!!!! Also, his
aunt and godmother Therese Dodge (Class of 06), who
recently joined the Order of Sacro Cuore in Florence, says
that he has been officially adopted by all the sisters so
he has 15 new aunts praying for him. What a lucky boy!
Andy
Day has been stuck up in New Jersey, but escaped for enough
time to enjoy France and Spain on a pilgrimage with some Seton
Hall students! The FOCUS team at Seton Hall took 15 students
to Segovia, Lourdes, Saragoza, and Avila. Here are Andy and
his teammates in Segovia with a Roman aqueduct in the background
dating back to the 1st century A.D. Andy is excited to announce
that he will be returning to Seton Hall next year as Campus
Director and will direct the FOCUS mission there at Seton
Hall.
Sean
and Mary Lou (Foley) Loftus were pleased to welcome
their second daughter, Caitlin Bernadette Loftus, on February
10, 2007. She weighed in at a surprisingly big 9 lbs 3 oz
and was baptized on the feast of St. Bernadette. Daddy says
Caitlin is "wonderfully edible" and her big sister
Maureen can't get enough of her, already coming up with a
fun nickname for her. Mom thinks she is an angel baby, making
everyone in the family happy by sleeping through the night
at 6 weeks old.
On
Sunday, April 29, Patricia Metzger, along with two
of her FOCUS teammates and three students from George Mason
competed in the Hampden-Sydney Triathlon on the Hill down
in Hampden, Virginia. One of the students is Teresa Myers
(02-03). It was a gorgeous day for a triathlon!
They all woke up at 4:45 am and had completed the race by
9:30, before most people wake up. Trish swallowed a bug on
the trail, but everything else went fine! Here they are at
the finish line after the race: Trish Metzger (05),
Tala Burnison, Teresa Myers (02-03), Christi Rusteikas, Thomas
Gallagher, and Chris Meyer.
Charlie
Spiering and Becca Smith are engaged. Charlie proposed
Friday, April 20th in the evening. Becca said yes and is showing
us all the reason why her class voted her best smile. Charlie
looks pretty happy too. The photo was taken after Becca said
yes.
At
long last, we have heard from Megan (Mathewes-Green) Parker
('99). Last August, she and her husband Dave welcomed their
third child, Michael James. He is an outgoing, sweet guy who
nicely rounds out their family, joining Hannah (6 1/2) and
Adam (4 1/2). They live in a suburb of Baltimore and enjoy
visits from Christendom alumni travelling the East coast.
Megan is still not Catholic . . . yet. ;-)
