Parents Weekend 2011

Family fun in the fall.

It is a pleasure to invite you to the annual Christendom College Parents' Weekend from September 23-25th, 2011. We hope you will join your son or daughter for this festive weekend. Our faculty, staff and students are excited to have you as guests on our campus. We have planned a full schedule of academic, social and athletic activities for the weekend. Please look over the information below and register by Friday, September 16, 2011.

This year, we have several offerings we are excited to present to you. There are three registration options to choose from to better fit your needs. We're happy to present a variety of events including the Civil War Tour, leisure canoeing, the Christendom Trails Tour and the United Nations Pro-Life Lobbying Fundraiser (please note – UN Fundraiser has a separate admission fee).

Upon your arrival at the College, we ask that all guests please check-in at the Welcome and Information Center table located in the John Paul the Great Student Center. The check-in process allows you to sign up for the various events and to pick up all the information you will need for the weekend. If you are arriving after check in hours, we ask that you send your student to pick up your event/meal tickets as these will be required for events and meals.

Friday, September 23
10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.	Check-in at the Welcome and Information Center John Paul the Great Student Center Please register upon arrival and pick up an updated schedule for the weekend, your meal tickets, sign up for events, and get information on local attractions/resources.
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.	The Christendom Classroom Experience Join our students and professors for actual Christendom College classes! Please register for designated classes upon your arrival at the Welcome and Information Center.
11:30 a.m.	Mass Christ the King Chapel
11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.	Lunch St. Lawrence Commons
3:00 p.m. & 4:00 p.m.	Parent’s Weekend Special Sessions St. Thomas Aquinas Hall
3:00 p.m.	Session #1 - College History 101: Learn about the history of Christendom College from English Professor Dr. Robert Rice.
4:00 p.m.	Session #2 - Rome Program & Mission Trips 101: Learn about the junior semester Rome Program From Miss Caitlin Bowers and student Mission Trips from Mr. Mike Brown.
5:15 p.m.	Dinner St. Lawrence Commons
7:00 p.m.	Women's Volley Ball vs. Hood College Crusader Gymansium
8:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.	Movie and Game Night Student Center Basement While you are attending this evening's Talent Show, a family friendly movie and games will be available for your younger family members. We ask that any children under the age of 13 be accompanied by an adult or older sibling.
8:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m	Senior Fundraiser Talent Show St. Kilian’s Café and John Paul the Great Student Center Help the senior class raise money for the gift to the College and experience the best of Christendom’s talent at the same time! Join us in Kilian’s Café for an amazing display of Christendom students’ many talents. All proceeds from this event will go to the Senior Class Gift. Tickets will be $5 and drinks will be $2. There will also be door prizes, a raffle, and other exciting games throughout the night. This event is geared toward young adults and adults. You can pay for this event “at the door.” Cost Age 21 and over = $12 Age 15-20 = $8 This event is geared toward young adults and adults. *This event does not need to be paid for in advance. You can pay “at the door.”
9:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.	Open Gym Crusader Gymnasium Enjoy time on the basketball court, a game of wally-ball, hand ball or racquet ball and other gym-related activities as you’d like.

Saturday, September 24

1:00 - 5:00 p.m.	The Christendom Outdoor Experience* Locations and event specifications available upon sign-up during Registration Canoeing the Shenandoah River sponsored by the Department of Athletics: Canoe launch times from Christendom's Dock: 1- 3pm, official ID required * Christendom Wooded Trails and River Overlook Tour with Dr. Robert Rice – 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. * Civil War Tour with Dr. John Cuddeback – 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. Registration for these events is required at the time of your arrival at the Welcome and Information Center Table. Space is limited. Registration for these events closes at 11am on Saturday. We advise that you register or send your student to register you early Friday for these events as they fill up fast! Events and times are subject to change based on weather or similar limitations.
1:00 - 5:00 p.m.	Open Gym Crusader Gymnasium
5:00 p.m.	Parents Picnic St Lawrence Commons Be our guest for an outdoor picnic with all the trimmings! Seating in the Commons, outdoors, in the Chapel Crypt and in the lower level of the Commons.
6:00 - 8:00 p.m.	Residence Halls Open to Parents and Family Residence Halls
7:00 - 9:00 p.m.	Movie and Game Night Student Center Basement Enjoy an informal opportunity for your family and Christendom student to spend some relaxing time together. A family friendly movie and game time in the Student Center available. We ask that any children under the age of 13 be accompanied by an adult or older sibling.
8:00 - 10:00 p.m.	Evening With the Stars Campion Field Stop by and enjoy a viewing of Jupiter and other constellations along with a brief description of their mythologies with Christendom Astronomy Professor Dr. George Garrigan. Weather and moonlight permitting.
8:00 - 11:00 p.m.	Parents Weekend Dance St. Lawrence Commons An event offering dancing for all; learn how to swing dance and enjoy a contra dance showcase with the Christendom College Swing Club and Contra Club!
