The
Video Gaming Habit
By John Connolly
My grades
were steadily falling,
My room was quite a mess,
I hadn't eaten in two days,
But I would still obsess.
When people
mentioned homework,
Or the next big test,
I'd tell myself I still had time
And all students need rest.
I'd play
into the early hours,
I had no sense of time.
Neglected soon became my showers,
I was covered in grime.
Then one
day I did it.
I attained the highest rank.
There was nothing left for me,
My life was now a blank.
I went
to class that morning,
'Neath my teacher's scornful glare.
But even worse than his foul looks
Was the other students' stares.
I tried
to recall all their names,
I'm sure I did my best.
And even worse than all of that
Was my grade in that day's test.
I now
refrain from video games,
I study night and day.
My room is nice and tidy,
I can be proud of what I weigh.
My addiction
is now over,
I feel that this is true,
And I now have some wisdom
That I'll pass on to you.
When life
is hard and has no bliss,
And leaves one cold and sore,
The comfort that I have is this:
I have the highest score.
