William Luckey to Speak at NDGS Theological Happy Hour

The Notre Dame Graduate School of Christendom College (NDGS) will host its popular Theological Happy Hour on November 15, 2003, at its campus in Alexandria, Virginia. Dr. William R. Luckey, Chairman of the Department of Political Science and Economics at Christendom College, will deliver a talk entitled, "Pope John Paul II: On the Cutting Edge of Catholic Social Teachings in Economics."

William Luckey was born in the south Bronx, and raised in Jackson Heights, Queens. He received his BA from St. John's University, NY, in Political Science with a minor in Philosophy, and served in the United States Marine Corps. He received an MA and PhD in Political Philosophy from Fordham University, where he was an Earhart Foundation Fellow and a Robert Boone Stewart Fellow. He taught at St. John's University, St. Francis College in Brooklyn, and Cardinal Newman College in St. Louis prior to coming to Christendom College in 1984. In the 1990's he received an MBA. from Shenandoah University and an MA in Economics from George Mason University where he was a student of Nobel Prize winner James Buchanan.

Luckey is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Political Science and Economics at Christendom College where he has taught since 1984. He was director of the Christendom Politics Program for five years.

He has published in Faith and Reason, the Journal of Markets and Morality, and published "John Courtney Murray: A Catholic Appreciation in John Courtney Murray and the American Civil Conversation, edited by Grasso and Hunt.

He has given scholarly papers at Franciscan University of Steubenville, Calvin College, Auburn University, the Eric Voegelin Society and the American Political Science Association, and is on the advisory board of the Center for Economic Personalism. He is an adjunct scholar of the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty and is a member of the Board of Scholars of the Virginia Institute for Public Policy. He is listed in the Lexington Who's Who of Executives and Professionals, and the Empire Who's Who of Empowering Executives and Professionals.

This year he will have been married for 32 years to the former Julia Anastasio and has four children and five grandchildren with one more on the way. He has been a member of the Third Order of St. Dominic for over 29 years.

The event will begin with a happy hour at 6:00 pm, followed by the talk at 7:00 pm. Questions and refreshments will follow. All are welcome to attend and admission is free.
