Christendom College Getting Geared Up for Summer Programs
February 17, 2005
Each summer, Christendom College hosts a number of popular summer programs for Catholics of all ages. The Summer of 2005 looks to be one of the best yet.
The ever-popular Notre Dame Graduate School (NDGS) of Christendom College Summer Program will run from June 20 to July 29. During the six-week program, students from across the country will study, pray, and socialize together on the College's Front Royal, Virginia, campus. Many catechists, Directors of Religious Education, Catholic school teachers, and religious enroll in the Summer Program because of the flexibility of the academic schedule. Matriculating students take three courses a summer, completing their coursework after four summer sessions.
The graduate school offers a Master of Arts degree in Theological Studies, with concentrations in Moral Theology, Systematic Theology, and Catechetics. The beautiful riverside campus with its full range of academic, spiritual, and recreational possibilities provides a perfect milieu for study, prayer, and good times that make up Christian academic community life.
For the first time in its long history, the High School Summer Program will only be open to rising high school seniors, not rising juniors as in the past. The Admissions Office had to make this change due to the increased amount of interest shown in the program over the past two years.
During the two-week program, students will be given a taste of what life is like to be a student at an authentic Catholic college, being fully immersed into a truly Catholic atmosphere where fun, friendship, culture, and academics are seamlessly woven together.
Activities will include classes, daily Mass, canoe trips on the Shenandoah River, hikes through the Blue Ridge Mountains, day-trips to Washington, DC, and much more. Students can choose from one of two sessions, the first running from June 19 to July 1 and the second from July 10 to July 22.
And at the height of the summer months, Christendom's 16th Annual Summer Institute will feature Fr. Mitch Pacwa, S.J., Dr. Timothy O'Donnell, and others. The focus of the Institute will be "The Year of the Eucharist," and will be held on July 16.
