Father of College Alumna and "Religious Right" Paul Weyrich Dies at 66

January 8, 2009

paul Conservative giant Paul Weyrich died December 19 while being hospitalized near his home in Northern Virginia. His daughter, Diana (Weyrich) Pascoe, attended Christendom College and later served on its Board of Directors.

Weyrich suffered from methicillin-resistant staph aureus, commonly termed MRSA. His funeral was held at Holy Transfiguration on December 22.

"Paul Weyrich was a main motivator for the United States' return to the principles of Western Christian Civilization after the downslide of the 1960' and 70's," Christendom's Chairman of Political Science and Economics Dr. William Luckey said. "He and his Free Congress Foundation had the optimum combination of principles and practice to move this country in the right direction—a legacy that has recently become eclipsed, but is still alive because of people like him."

Weyrich was a firm Catholic, a deacon in the Maronite Catholic Church, as well as a good friend of Christendom College and the Department of Political Science and Economics, Luckey said.

"Paul put together lectures from famous conservative movers and shakers for the Politics Program, and helped fund the Department's projects. He was a gift of God in so many ways!"

Eternal rest grant unto Paul, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
