Players to Perform Mystery-Thriller The Woman in White

March 27, 2009

The Christendom College Players will present the famous mystery-thriller, The Woman in White, on April 3-5 at the Warren County High School Auditorium in Front Royal, Va.

wBased on the novel by Wilkie Collins, The Woman in White tells the story of artist Walter Hartright who has an eerie midnight encounter with a ghostly woman dressed all in white. Hartright, engaged as a drawing master to the beautiful Laura Fairlie and her half sister, tells his pupils about his strange encounter. Determined to learn all they can about the mysterious woman in white, the three soon find themselves drawn into a chilling vortex of crime, poison, kidnapping, and international intrigue.

"The book that the play was based on was probably the most popular book of its time," Literature Professor and Play Producer Dr. Patrick Keats said. "It's a great story because it has a little bit of everything in it—colorful characters, action, romance, several evil villains. Plus, we have one of the best casts we've ever assembled. I think people will really enjoy it."

Showtimes will be Friday, April 3, at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 4, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 5, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.

"I am very excited," Student-Actor Patrick Freeman said. "The whole play is full of life and energy. Every single scene is jammed pack with so much information and it's beautiful how all the actors have come together and given it everything they possibly could. They've created one great performance."

Although Christendom College does not have a drama department or major, each year it produces two major plays and a variety of other performances.

"The students are very talented, but they choose to get a broad classical liberal arts education rather than a narrow training in the arts during their college years," says Director of Admissions Tom McFadden. "And to their credit, a number of our more enthusiastic thespians have gone on to work at schools around the country where they have primarily been involved in teaching, but they have taken on the role of director and producer for their schools' plays and drama presentations."

Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $5 for students, and $3 for children 12 and under. For more information, or to reserve tickets at the door, call Christendom College at 800.877.5456 ext. 1390.
