College Featured in Cardinal Newman Society Eucharistic Adoration VideoMarch 16, 2011
Christendom College students star in a new video on Eucharistic Adoration produced by the Cardinal Newman Society (CNS). The video, entitled Adoration U, seeks to inspire college students to strengthen their faith through Eucharistic Adoration. The film crew worked several days on the video's production at the college's Front Royal, Va., campus last spring.
The video shows several students confronting challenges common in the college years. A voice over speaks in the person of Jesus inviting students to come to Adoration. Students are shown going to Eucharistic Adoration to help them with their challenges. The video can be viewed at AdorationU.comand on the CNS blog, blog.cardinalnewmansociety.org.
"Please extend our sincere and deepest gratitude to the Christendom College community for permitting us to use the campus, dorm rooms, classrooms, common areas, and the beautiful Christ the King Chapel," Director of CNS External Relations David Costanzo wrote in an email. "A particular thanks to the students who helped in the production with multiple hours of camera time, and for some of them, for the multiple days of filming!"
Costanzo says that Adoration U was made to bring college students to Our Lord in Eucharistic Adoration. “What better place to shoot it than a college such as Christendom where the faith is alive and dedication to the Blessed Sacrament strong among students,” he continues. “Hopefully other students that see our video will be inspired with similar devotion!”
Sophomore Olivia Aveni, one of the student-actors featured in the video, also hopes that the video will encourage students to seek out Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
“On our campus there’s plenty of opportunity for Eucharistic Adoration and it is something that every Catholic university should focus on. The Real Presence is so important for college students—they need Him,” she says.
Aveni describes the making of the video as “an awesome experience.”
“It was really cool getting to see all the intricacies of film making and I was really impressed with the director,” she says. “I’m interested in working in the field of media and communications when I graduate, so it was great seeing how video and films can be used to give glory to God.”
CNS also ranks Christendom in its Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College.
“Christendom College is one of the foremost institutions carrying the banner in the renewal of Catholic higher education,” says Patrick J. Reilly, President of CNS. “Choosing a Catholic College wouldn’t be complete without it.”
The guide states: “It would be difficult for Christendom to have a fuller Catholic identity. It does truly permeate the campus. You can see it, you can feel it on the campus. They are justifiably proud of presenting Catholicism as 'the air that we breathe.'”
