Christendom College President Dr. Timothy O’Donnell will deliver a talk at the First Sacred Heart World Congress in Paray-le-Monial, France, on October 7, 2011. His talk, entitled “The History of Devotion to the Sacred Heart: St. Margaret Mary and its Foundation in the Word of God,” will examine the core of Jesus’ person as seen in the Gospels.

“It is a great joy and honor to have been asked to address the First Sacred Heart World Congress,” O’Donnell said. “The devotion to the Heart of Jesus has been with me since my youth and was the focus of my doctoral studies in Rome. I pray that this conference will help our troubled world by proclaiming anew the inexhaustible love of the Heart of Christ our Lord and King.”

O’Donnell was the first layman to receive both his licentiate and doctoral degrees in Ascetical and Mystical Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome. He is a Knight Grand Cross in the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre and he is a Consultor to the Pontifical Council for the Family. Additionally, he is the author of Heart of the Redeemer and has filmed many programs for the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) including Glory of the Papacy and Luke: Meek Scribe of Christ.

“We Are Called to Build a Civilization of Love” is the theme the Congress being held October 6-11. Paray-le-Monial is the location of St. Margaret Mary’s visions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The Congress will feature other acclaimed speakers and experts on the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, including Fr. Richard McNally, Johnette Benkovich, Raymond Arroyo, Msgr. John Esseff, Raymond de Sousa, and long-time friend of Christendom College Cardinal Raymond Burke.

O’Donnell will also lead a meditation, “With Christ in Gethsemane,” on October 6 during a Holy Hour, which will launch the Congress.

In Front Royal, Va., Christendom College’s head chaplain, Fr. Donald Planty, will lead the students of Christendom in a Holy Hour on October 6 at 11:00 pm in Christ the King Chapel for the success of the Congress.
