College Community Mourns the Loss of Pro-Life Leader Nellie GrayAugust 14, 2012
The entire Christendom College community joins the global pro-life community in mourning the loss of Nellie Gray. The dynamic founder and leader of the March for Life in Washington, D.C., died this past weekend.
Gray was a good friend to Christendom College, having selected its students to lead the annual March for Life four times in D.C.: 1984, 1998, 2009, and 2012. The College awarded its prestigious Pro Deo et Patria medal to Gray in 2004 for distinguished service to God and country.
"Nellie Gray was an outstanding Catholic woman who bore witness to her Faith in every aspect of her life. She was a great friend to the most innocent victims among us—unborn children," said College President Dr. Timothy O'Donnell. "Her leadership of the March for Life these past 39 years has made her an outstanding hero."
O'Donnell recalls Gray’s visit to Christendom in 2004 with “great fondness.”
"I mourn her loss as do all men and women of goodwill throughout our country and the world," said O'Donnell. "I pray that our Lord will receive into His everlasting kingdom this soul who was so faithful to Him and the sanctity of His precious gift of life."
May her soul, and all the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
