On September 15, Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde joined students in St. Kilian’s Café for a Pub Night, where he delivered a talk on the Second Vatican Council. In his talk, the bishop spoke of the great impact that the Council had on the Church, and provided insights on the history and theology of the Council.

Bishop Loverde’s talk was well received by the students who filled café.

“His talk really deepened my understanding of the Council,” said senior Jake Morgan.

Students were able to gain wisdom from their spiritual shepherd and also get to know him in the relaxed atmosphere of the event as they lingered after his talk to chat with him.

Bishop Loverde was ordained a priest in 1965 in St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome. He was ordained a bishop in 1988 and served the Archdiocese of Hartford and the Diocese of Ogdensburg before being installed as the third bishop of Arlington, Virginia, in 1999. A popular retreat leader, he has authored a number of articles in various Catholic publications. He served as Chairman of the Bishops' Committee on Vocations from 1995 to 1998 and is currently a member of the Bishops' Administrative Committee.
