25, 2003 Professor Anthony Esolen will speak on "The Romance of Christian Heroism in Torquato Tasso" at Christendom College on March 12, 2003, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel Crypt. Esolen is a Professor of English at Providence College in Rhode Island. He is a published poet who has written numerous scholarly articles on Renaissance and medieval literature. He is author of Peppers, a book of poetry, and his translations include Lucretius's De rerum natura (On the Nature of Things), and Torquato Tasso's Gerusalemme Liberata (Jerusalem Delivered). Additionally, he has translated Dante's Inferno for the new Modern Library edition. The Modern Library was founded in 1917 to provide American readers with inexpensive reprints of European modernist titles, plus the work of a few contemporary Americans.
