High School Summer Program Draws Students From US and Beyond
Spending
two weeks on Christendoms beautiful campus in the Shenandoah Valley
seemed very natural for over 70 high school students this past summer.
In two different sessions, Christendom offered these high school juniors
and seniors the opportunity to see first-hand what Christendom College
is all about during its annual High School Summer Program.
Students came to the
Summer Program from all across America and beyond. Two students even flew
in from Spain, while another came from Ireland. But no matter where they
came from, they all were immersed into Christendom Colleges Catholic
culture and experienced life as a college student.
During
their two-weeks on campus, the students took part in a highly organized
and structured program. Led by Christendom graduate Siobhan OConnor
05 and a group of committed camp counselors comprised of both students
and alumni, the students attended history, English, Theology, and Philosophy
classes each morning, taught by Christendom Colleges own professors.
And each afternoon and evening, the students experienced life in both
the Shenandoah Valley and the surrounding areas by going on canoe trips
and hikes, going to baseball games in Baltimore and sightseeing in Washington,
DC, and exploring Luray Caverns and the historic Front Royal area.
Each year, one of
the events most appreciated by the students is the barn dance held at
College President Dr. Timothy ODonnells house. Students were
treated to live Irish music, provided by Dr. ODonnell on guitar
and vocals and College chaplain Fr. John Heisler on the tin whistle. Following
the rousing sing-a-long, the students then put on their dancin shoes
and danced the Virginia Reel.
Next years program
will be held from June 18-30 and from July 9-21 and applications are already
available online by clicking HERE.
