The book is designed to assist students who see themselves as religious believers, conservatives, or old-fashioned liberals in finding programs that connect in a special way with the core values of the American founding and the vibrant intellectual traditions of the West-schools and programs that are, in fact, often transformative. "A visitor to Christendom senses an enthusiasm that transcends time and season, grounded in the quest for truth and animated by faith," the profile, edited by John Zmirak, begins. "Christendom's history curriculum reflects a reverence for the traditions of Christian Europe that is rare on college campuses," the profile on the 30-year-old college stated. "'Christendom is very respectful of the Western Heritage,' notes one student, adding that, after all, the western tradition is the cradle of the Catholic faith." While the profile does include "necessary caveats about unfortunate aspects," it leaves the reader with a good sense of Christendom's academic strength and gifted faculty, as well as, a sense of what the Christendom way of life is all about: being young, educated, Catholic, moral and happy. Christendom is a standard
in the ISI's Choosing the Right College, a review of 125 of the
nation's top colleges. Christendom appears in numerous other national
secular and religious guides each year including Peterson's Competitive
Colleges, U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Colleges,
The Princeton Review's The Best 357 Colleges, and many more.
