Christendom College President O’Donnell Awarded by Brent Society

bsThe Brent Society presented its 2007 Distinguished Service Award to College President Dr. Timothy T. O’Donnell on May 31 at its Annual Awards Dinner. Dr. Mary Kay Clark, Director of Seton Home Study, was given the same award.

“These outstanding educators are being honored for their constant achievement to authentic Catholic education,” the Brent Society President Joseph Strada said.

Dr. Robert Rice, long-time professor of English at Christendom College introduced Dr. O’Donnell. “After Dr. Warren Carroll, no one has done more to help the growth and development of the college than Dr. O’Donnell.”

O'Donnell was the first layman to receive both his licentiate and doctoral degrees in Ascetical and Mystical Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome. He has taught at St. John's Seminary in Camarillo, California and at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. He is a Knight Grand Cross in the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre and he is a Consultor to the Pontifical Council for the Family. Additionally, he is the author of Heart of the Redeemer and Swords Around the Cross: The Nine Years War. He has filmed many programs for the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) including Glory of the Papacy and Luke: Meek Scribe of Christ.

O’Donnell who is celebrating 15 years as college President thanked the faculty and staff of the college for all their hard work and in particular his wife, Catherine.

Fr. Thomas Euteneuer of Human Life International was awarded Brent Society’s Militantis Ecclesiae Miles (Soldier of Church Militant) Award, in honor of his defense of Church teachings against abortion and contraceptives as witnessed on Hannity and Colmes of Fox News.

The Brent Society is an organization of men and women in the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia. The society was established in 1980 by Bishop Thomas Welsh and received its name from the Brent family who were the original Catholic settlers in Maryland and Virginia. The Society continues in the Brent family’s rich tradition of public witness and fellowship and in the promotion of spiritual, intellectual, and social opportunities in living the Catholic Faith.
