Christendom’s athletics department hosted the college’s first Crusader Alumni Games weekend April 16-18, 2021, with the current student-athletes and alumni competing in a variety of matches on campus. The games were a hit with all involved, giving the alumni the chance to not only compete but reconnect with the college and current students.

“Being able to welcome so many of our Crusader alumni back onto the field and the court was a joy,” said Athletic Director Patrick Quest. “These alumni have been passionately supporting their former teams for years. This weekend was a thank you to them, but also an opportunity for our current students to interact with players of years past, get to know them, and network with them as well. We cannot wait to build on the success of this first Crusader Alumni Games weekend as we continue to offer it in the future.”

Christendom has hosted alumni vs. students athletic matches in years past, but never so many over one weekend. On Friday evening, the weekend began with the alumni vs. the volleyball team, with alumni ultimately winning 3 sets to 1. The following day, men’s and women’s soccer matches were played back-to-back on Crusader Fields, with alumni winning the men’s game 3-2 on a go ahead goal with under two minutes to play and the women’s soccer team winning the women’s game 4-0. The Rugby game wrapped up the day on Saturday, with alumni pulling ahead late and winning 38-26.

On Saturday evening, registered alumni, students, and friends of Christendom attended a Crusader Network Reception at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club, before the weekend closed at nearby Bing Crosby Fields on Sunday for a baseball game between the alumni and the baseball team. The baseball team won 14-2, with an enthusiastic crowd of students and alumni cheering on inside the stadium.

Christendom’s athletics department has worked hard this academic year to offer games for the college’s varsity teams, after so many games were cancelled due to COVID-19. These matches gave students another great opportunity to compete, in what were the final matches for some current students.
