Christendom rugby is set to begin their latest season in two weeks — now with even higher expectations. National Collegiate Rugby gave Christendom the #1 ranking in their division before the start of the 2021-22 season, putting Christendom in an elite group as it prepares for another National Championship title run this year.
National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) announced the news on August 25, ranking Christendom above Virginia Military Institute, Franciscan University, Cal Maritime, and College of the Holy Cross in the Men’s Small College Division. Christendom now stands at the top of NCR along with fellow #1 teams DI Kutztown and DII Wisconsin-Whitewater — an impressive achievement for the rugby program, especially considering the over 600 men’s and women’s teams which compete in NCR.
The news comes on the heels of Christendom’s fourth-straight trip to the Collegiate Rugby Championship over Memorial Day Weekend, following a successful — but abbreviated — regular season. Christendom’s rugby team has found great success over the years in Rugby 15s and 7s, making National Championship runs in both formats — including the 7s National Championship-winning team in 2017. The team also earned the #1 ranking in the nation in 2018, in addition to a variety of other awards over the years.
Christendom is set to begin their season at home on Saturday, September 11, against Virginia Military Institute, with home games following every Saturday for the rest of September.
