Alumni returned to campus for Christendom’s second annual Crusader Alumni Games, held this year on April 9. Following on the success of last year’s inaugural games, even more alumni participated in this year’s event, enjoying the opportunity to reconnect with former athletes and compete against the current generation.
On Saturday afternoon, the college hosted four games, with alumnae taking on the women’s soccer team first and drawing them on a 1-1 tie. The women’s volleyball team took on alumnae up next in St. Louis the Crusader Gymnasium, shutting out the alumnae 4-0. To close the afternoon, the men’s soccer and rugby teams took on alumni on Crusader Fields, with current players defeating alumni in both games, 5-2 and 31-19 respectively.
Each game brought great competition for all involved, but, even more importantly, the chance for alumni to meet and mentor the current athletes competing at the college.
“We’ve learned over the years how excited alumni athletes are to return to campus and compete with former teammates again, so having these games has been such a joy for all involved,” says Director of Athletics Patrick Quest. “Here at Christendom, all of our teams are guided by the same principle: to play for the love of the game and the glory of God. Alumni carry that with them following college and want to experience it again. These games give them that opportunity, while also bringing them together with current students. We look forward to hosting the Alumni Games next spring.”
With baseball and softball games postponed on Sunday due to wet fields, the weekend instead closed with the Crusader Network Reception on Saturday evening at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. Registered alumni, students, and friends of Christendom gathered for an evening celebrating Christendom’s athletic teams, with students even getting the opportunity to learn more about what career fields alumni have gone into after college and gaining valuable advice on what steps they can take now as students to prepare for success.
