Alumnus Deacon Gerard-Marie Anthony ’02 has penned a new book on the Sacred Heart and Divine Mercy, titled Peaceful Hearts, Zealous Hearts: How the Sacred Heart and Divine Mercy Devotions’ Complementary Messages Make Us New. In the book, Deacon Anthony unveils how these two devotions enable us to console God’s heart and the hearts of others, opening us to receive consolation ourselves.

Deacon Anthony has been a sought-after writer and speaker for years, but Peaceful Hearts, Zealous Hearts marks his first-ever book. In the spiritual work, Deacon Anthony builds on Christendom College President Dr. Timothy O’Donnell’s acclaimed book Heart of the Redeemer, which provides a thorough presentation of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Deacon Anthony uses that work as his jumping-off point, connecting devotion to the Sacred Heart to devotion to Divine Mercy, showing how these two devotions can “restore all things in Christ.”

While the devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Divine Mercy are often seen as separate, Deacon Anthony explains in his book how they are actually complementary tools that aid in igniting one’s spiritual life and restoring the world. Deacon Anthony reveals the powerful origins of both of these devotions in Scripture, along with showing the powerful significance of the Sacred Heart and Divine Mercy messages in combatting three major heresies, and their practical applications today.
