On Thursday, September 26, Christendom’s Graduate School of Theology will host philosophy professor Dr. Diego Poole Derqui to give a lecture on natural rights for the Christendom community. The talk, titled “Natural Rights: Reexamining Modern Foundations,” will take place from 4-5:00 pm in Christendom’s St. John the Evangelist Library, with a discussion following.
Dr. Poole is a professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid, where he teaches philosophy and theory of law. He earned his doctorate in law from the Compultense University of Madrid. He has written a number of books and articles on the philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas, legal theory, natural law, and Christian life, including The Principle of Solidarity and Cooperation and Three Interpretive Keys to Thomistic Natural Law. He is an internationally known Thomist philosopher and legal theorist, lecturing widely on themes related to the Christian life.
In addition to his expertise in the philosophy of law, Dr. Poole also performed as a clown to entertain Pope St. John Paul II on several occasions. The Graduate School will host an informal interview at Kilian’s Café on Dr. Poole’s experience performing for the Pope saint, as well as his insights on life and human happiness. The interview will take place from 8-9:00 pm, with both events open to the Christendom community.
