The men’s and women’s basketball teams bounced back from tough losses to jump back in the win column this past weekend, with the men’s team taking down Williamson 68-55 and the women’s team defeating Penn State Mont Alto 53-43.
The women’s team, still in the midst of a third consecutive national title hunt, took two tough losses last week — the first time they had lost back-to-back games since December. They returned home on Tuesday looking to snap that streak, taking on Penn State Mont Alto. While Christendom would fall behind 16-14 in the first quarter, they quickly flipped the script in the second, outscoring Penn State 15-4 to take a 29-20 lead into halftime. The two teams fought hard the rest of the second half, but that second quarter proved to be the key to Christendom’s victory, with the team ultimately putting up a 53-43 win.
Mary Pennefather led the way for Christendom in the game, dropping 16 points, with Sydnie Villarreal right behind her with 14 points of her own. Libby Kolesar dished out 14 assists, while Lucy Pennefather nabbed 12 as well in the win.
The women’s basketball team, now standing at 7-5 on the season, will next take on Washington Adventist at home on Monday, February 9.
Men’s Basketball
Meanwhile, also at home, the men’s basketball team earned a 68–55 victory over Williamson, controlling much of the contest. Christendom built a 30–21 lead by halftime and withstood a second-half push from Williamson to secure the win.
Bobby Vander Woude dominated the game with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Michael Vander Woude was not far behind with 15 points of his own. Daniel Schultz also dropped 13 points in the victory for Christendom.
Now standing at 7-10 on the season, the men’s basketball team will next play Manor College on their home court on Saturday, February 14.
