A new stained-glass window depicting Venerable Fulton J. Sheen has been installed in Christendom College’s Christ the King Chapel, just weeks before his upcoming beatification on September 24. The window is one of the first to depict Ven. Sheen with a halo behind his head, anticipating his soon-to-be status as Blessed.
Meticulously designed and crafted by the artisans at Beyer Studio, a nationally recognized stained-glass studio based in Philadelphia, the window features a smiling Ven. Sheen holding a microphone, recognizing his extraordinary use of radio and television to proclaim the Gospel to millions.
Ven. Sheen will be beatified on September 24 at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, with Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle presiding as the representative of Pope Leo XIV. The beatification will formally confer upon the renowned American archbishop and evangelist the title of “Blessed,” with many Christendom alumni expected to be in attendance.
The new window can be found in the south transept of the chapel.
Installed in the south transept of the chapel, the Sheen window is one of seven new stained-glass windows recently added to Christ the King Chapel. Two new windows in the Lady Chapel depict Our Lady of La Leche and Our Lady of Good Counsel, while new additions to the north transept depict Our Lady, Undoer of Knots, and St. Martin de Porres. Stained-glass depictions of St. Ambrose and St. Athanasius were also installed in the chapel’s main nave.
With this latest installation, Christ the King Chapel now features 74 stained-glass windows, bringing it closer to its ultimate total of 112. Depicting saints, biblical scenes, and the rich patrimony of the Catholic faith, the windows bring further beauty to the sacred space for the college community and its many visitors.
