Life in Christ: Vocation

May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what are the riches of glory. (Eph 1:18)

Every vocation is worthy of honor and is a call to holiness, whether it is the single life, the religious life, the priesthood or the married life. Christendom College provides the essential practices that help students discern their vocation. Our chapel is open most hours of the day for personal prayer time, and every day there are opportunities to go to Mass and Confession. We have ministry and service opportunities available to aid vocation discernment.

The chaplains help students find greater clarity in the decision-making for their vocation through spiritual direction and teaching. They offer counselling for couples who desire to receive the Sacrament of Matrimony. Members of religious communities visit our campus to meet with students and provide vocation guidance. One of our monthly social events includes a priest, or deacon, or sister who speaks about his or her vocation discernment.

Pastoral ministry is an indispensable means by which Catholic students can, in fulfilment of their baptism, be prepared for active participation in the life of the Church; it can assist in developing and nurturing the value of marriage and family life, fostering vocations to the priesthood and religious life, stimulating the Christian commitment of the laity and imbuing every activity with the spirit of the Gospel.
