Student Employment 101
Step 1: Determine your eligibility.
To be eligible for student employment…
- You must be a registered student, be enrolled in at least one class, and be in good standing at Christendom College.
- You must be able to prove your identity and your eligibility to work in the United States. If you are a U.S. citizen, please refer to the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification website for information and instructions. (See visual below.) If you are a foreign national, please visit the Foreign Academic Students webpage and make sure you have the required documentation listed in the table row entitled “On campus” under “F-1 Employment Type”. All student employees, including foreign nationals, must have an official social security number issued from the Social Security Administration.
- If you are not registered at Christendom College, have graduated or withdrawn, or are on a university or medical leave of absence, you will not be eligible for employment as a student.
All students who meet Christendom College’s employment eligibility requirements may work at Christendom College, regardless of their financial aid status.
Step 2: Know the policies and review the Student Employment Handbook.
Step 3: Be on the lookout for emails from Mrs. Kathleen Callegari on job postings to our jobs board page with Paycom.
You will need to create an account with the jobs board page to apply. Once you have applied, our supervisors will be in touch about steps moving forward, or if the position has been filled.
A complete listing of jobs offered to students can be found below. Please note that not all jobs are competitive or publicly advertised.
Step 4: Update your resume and practice interviewing. Review your current resume and add any new experiences or update existing ones to reflect your relevant skills and knowledge related to the jobs for which you’re applying. Follow the guidelines in the Resume and Cover Letter Writing Guide or schedule an appointment with Mrs. Stephens to work on your resume.
Some supervisors on campus conduct interviews of candidates before making hiring decisions. Prep for an interview by having answers ready for the following few questions:
- Tell me about yourself.
- Why are you interested in this position? What will you bring to this position?
- Tell me about a strength and a weakness or area of improvement.
- What experiences (on- or off-campus) have you had which have prepared you to be successful in this position?
If you’d like to practice answering these questions, schedule a mock interview with Mrs. Stephens.
