makersChristendom College will be hosting a newly expanded Discernment Weekend for its students on February 23-25. The weekend will not only focus on priestly and religious vocations, but on the married and single life as well.

“It’s actually important for everyone to understand, not just their own vocation, but the vocations of others as well, so that we can help each other. Hopefully, this conference will help make that happen,” Alumni and Career Development Director Tom McGraw said.

“Over 100 graduates of Christendom have entered into the priesthood or religious life and there have been over 300 alumni-to-alumni marriages with absolutely no divorces,” McGraw said. “Through weekends like this one, we hope to help these trends continue.”

The weekend begins Friday with an Opening Mass at 4:45 p.m. celebrated by Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde who will be accompanied by many priests of various orders from across the country.

priestAt 9 a.m. Saturday, Rev. Frank Pavone, the National Director of Priests for Life, will deliver a talk entitled, “Master, Where Do You Stay?” – Dealing With Uncertainty in Discernment. Pavone, a prominent pro-life leader in America, has traveled to all 50 states and five continents, preaching and teaching against abortion and helping other priests do the same.

At 10 a.m. there will be Exposition, Adoration, and Confession. After Mass at 11:15, a luncheon will follow during which a variety of religious orders will be available for one-on-one discussion about their communities. Over 30 orders will be present, some from as far away as California.

From 1-4 p.m. a series of one-hour break-out-session talks will take place in the classrooms of St. Lawrence Commons. There will be four talks taking place simultaneously from which participants will be able to choose. Featured talks will be on marriage, priesthood, religious life, and single life.

At 4 p.m. participants, as well as priests and religious, will have the opportunity to visit at a Social Hour hosted in the Chapel Crypt.
