About

We’re not like other colleges. And that’s a good thing.

“Christendom College is not just a superior academic institution. It forms young men and women into real Christian disciples, people of keen intellect, prudent judgment, deep Catholic culture and a zealous love of God and learning. So it was at the college’s founding in 1977. So it is today. No one can ask anything higher from higher education…The Church owes a hearty ‘thank you’ to everyone in the Christendom College community for their extraordinary witness of Christian humanism and unembarrassed, joyful dedication to living the Catholic faith.” – Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, Formerly of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, PA

Christendom College is a Catholic liberal arts college offering a time-tested and rigorous education that develops the student’s intellect in such a powerful way that he graduates with the ability to master any subject—no matter how complex the vocational calling.

Today’s increasingly secularized culture is challenging for today’s Catholics – both young and old – and it is becoming harder to learn the Truth, live the Faith, and defend traditional Catholic principles.

And when it comes to college, studying in an environment that is both intellectually rigorous and morally sound is almost impossible to find. Between ideologically-driven professors, watered-down curricula, and a relativistic and often hedonistic campus culture, it’s difficult to find a college that will help you grow intellectually, spiritually, and professionally. In fact, 80% of those who leave the Faith do so by the time they are 23, leaving one to wonder how their college experience added to this tragedy!

But our founder, Dr. Warren Carroll, believed you should be able to attend a Catholic college and receive a top-notch education that will allow you to succeed in all aspects of your life by giving you a unified Catholic worldview that affects your vocational discernment and career decisions, and allows you to restore all things in Christ.

Our vibrant and joy-filled Catholic culture, faithful to the Magisterium, strengthens the faith of our students, rather than weakening it, and instills in them the confidence to understand, defend, and live the truths of the Faith – so necessary in helping to restore the culture.

So many faithful Catholics are choosing Christendom College so they can live the Faith in community, gain a better understanding of the whys behind the teachings of the Church, and, most importantly, learn how to combat the philosophical errors of today’s cultural issues. Through this transformative education, you will learn the Truth, live the Faith, and thrive as a Catholic.

More about Christendom College

The college is a four-year coeducational Roman Catholic Liberal Arts College with undergraduate and graduate programs offered in Front Royal Virginia, Donegal (Ireland), and Rome (Italy).

Founded in 1977 in response to the devastating blow inflicted on Catholic higher education by the cultural revolution which swept across America in the 1960s, Christendom’s goal is to provide a truly Catholic education in fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and thereby to prepare students for their role of restoring all things in Christ.

Christendom’s challenging 86-hour core curriculum of carefully selected subjects required for all of its undergraduate students enables them to grow in wisdom and virtue, as well as to acquire the skills most sought by employers: critical thinking, written and oral communication excellence, adaptability, creativity, organization, and responsibility.

The college’s main Front Royal campus overlooks the Shenandoah River with scenic views of the neighboring Blue Ridge Mountains. Students from over 45 states and 5 foreign countries are attracted to the College’s dedication to academic excellence, commitment to the restoration of a truly Catholic culture, and its personalized approach to everything from career development to academic counseling.

Upon graduation, many alumni go to such graduate schools as Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins, William & Mary, Catholic University, University of Virginia, Harvard, and Oxford to study everything from Neuroscience to Medicine, Law to Architecture, and Accounting to Dentistry.

Others choose to enter today’s workforce where they are able to utilize their well-rounded education to become leaders in a myriad of fields: IT, Sales, Business, Management, Education, Retail, Politics, and everything in between.
