On May 26, Christendom College alumna Kathleen Gilbert (’07) celebrated her clothing ceremony at the Carmelite Monastery in Buffalo, New York. Taking the name Sr. Mary Magdalene of Jesus Crucified, Gilbert is the fifth Christendom graduate to enter that particular monastery.
Gilbert was the Salutatorian of her class and worked as a journalist for LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) following her graduation and up until the time of her entry into Carmel.
College alumnus John Jalsevac (’07), who worked with Gilbert at LSN, was able to attend Gilbert’s clothing Mass with his wife, Cassidy (’07), and three children.
“We were able to spend some considerable time visiting with Kathleen in the parlor afterwards,” Jalsevac said. “She seems exquisitely happy and very comfortable in her new way of life.”
Other alumni at the monastery include Sr. Mary Immaculate of Eternal Father (Bernadette Almeter, ’98), Sr. Mary Grace of the Holy Spirit (Mary Curran, ’96), Sr. Juanita Marie of the Cross (Margaret Flagg, ’85), and Sr. Agnes Marie of Eternal High Priest (Teresa Gallagher, ’98).
There are a total of 16 alumni who have found their vocation with the Carmelites.
