Christendom College has been named one of the top five “Most Conservative Catholic Colleges” in America by Newsmax, according to a recent article published by the organization. Newsmax made the announcement earlier this week, ranking Christendom high on the list for its consistently steadfast conservative values.
In the announcement, writer Richard Risenberg lauded Christendom for laying its conservative values “out plainly” in the mission statement of the college, pointing out that Christendom was founded in response to the devastating blow inflicted on Catholic higher education by the cultural revolution of the 1960s.
“Christendom exists to properly educate students with the knowledge and confidence to stand for the traditional, conservative values this country was founded on. We haven’t changed our values since our founding, and never will. We’re honored to be recognized for our consistent stance by Newsmax,” says vice president for enrollment Tom McFadden.
This announcement comes on the heels of the recent news that the majority of the faculty at America’s prestigious Ivy League colleges and universities are liberal-leaning, and donate almost exclusively to the Democratic Party. Close to 90% of the faculty of Harvard University — one of the nation’s most well-known liberal arts schools — give to the Democrats.
Even as the nation’s most recognized schools continue to donate money to groups that reject traditional values, Christendom remains steadfast in its beliefs and social teachings, which adhere to the Magisterium and embrace the vision of Catholic higher education as presented by John Henry Cardinal Newman in The Idea of a University and by Pope Saint John Paul II in his Apostolic Constitution Ex Corde Ecclesiae.
This is not the first time that Christendom has received recognition from Newsmax, with the college being named as a “Top American Values College” in 2005, and being called a “crucible of change, inspiring Catholic educators worldwide to restore ancient tradition and return to what its followers believe is sound Catholic doctrine” in 2009.
Ranked as one of the top ten colleges in the nation by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI), Christendom appears in numerous other national secular and religious guides each year including Barron’s Best Buys, Peterson’s Competitive Colleges, The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College, and others.
