homecoming15-1Christendom College will welcome hundreds of alumni back to its Front Royal, Va. campus during the annual Homecoming Weekend, held this year from October 9-11. Featuring numerous events, such as class reunions, the 36th annual East vs. West football game and the 6th annual Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Golf Tournament, Homecoming Weekend is now open for registration through October 2.

“As alumni, all of us filtered through Christendom with a sense of mission.  In our own unique way, we are ‘restoring all things in Christ’ and we can use Homecoming as a way to continue to learn from one another and support one another as we enjoy the exciting growth and vitality of life on campus. Good things are happening at Christendom, and alumni can look forward to seeing and experiencing the ‘good old days’ through the current students on campus who are following in the footsteps that alumni have trod,” says assistant director of alumni and donor relations Vince Criste.

This year’s Homecoming Weekend is open to all alumni, with special attention paid to the classes of 1985, 1995, and 2005, who are celebrating their 30, 20, and 10-year reunions, respectively.

On Friday, October 9, many alumni will be taking part in the Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Golf Tournament, which will kick off the weekend at Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club in Front Royal, Va. The tournament will raise funds to go toward the Thomas S. Vander Woude Athletic Scholarships that are given out to incoming freshmen each year (click here to register for the tournament).

Following the new women’s alumni vs. students volleyball game and the traditional men’s alumni versus students basketball game in Crusader Gymnasium on Friday evening, alumni, faculty, staff and senior students will retreat to the college’s St. Kilian’s Cafe for a relaxed evening networking social.

Kicking off Saturday afternoon, members of the Classes of 2010-2015 will enjoy a Young Alumni BBQ with a catered lunch in the Chapel Crypt, while members of the Classes of 2005 will celebrate their 10-year reunion in St. Kilian’s Café.  During the afternoon, the men’s and women’s soccer teams will play Patrick Henry College on Crusader Fields.  All afternoon, there will be family-friendly activities offered for children and adults as well, with on-site food sales supporting the senior class gift.

That evening, the Classes of 1995 and 1985 will celebrate their 20 and 30-year reunions with privately catered dinners in the Chester-Belloc Room of Regina Coeli Hall and in St. Kilian’s Café, respectively.  The 30-year reunion is a first ever “all 80’s reunion,” welcoming any alumni from the 1980’s, with a special emphasis on the Class of 1985.

On Saturday evening, all alumni are welcome to attend the Warren H. Carroll Alumni Reception in the Chapel Crypt, where they will partake in fine foods, beverages, and conversations with fellow alumni and members of the faculty and staff. While the reception is going on, the annual Homecoming Dance will be held in St. Lawrence Commons, featuring live music from Yesterday Swing Orchestra.

On Sunday afternoon, to conclude the weekend, the college community will flock to Crusader Fields to watch the 36th annual East vs. West football game.  There will also be family-friendly activities for children and adults on Sunday afternoon, with on-site food sales supporting the spring break mission trips.

Limited on-campus babysitting is available for families at minimal charge as well. For more information and to register for Homecoming Weekend, please visit christendomalumni.com/homecoming/.
