Christendom’s rugby team will travel south this weekend, for its first-ever game against nationally recognized Duke University. The game will be held on Duke’s home pitch in North Carolina, with the match beginning at 6:00 pm.
Christendom’s rugby team has experienced incredible growth and success over the past several years, moving from a club sport to now being one of Christendom’s most successful varsity teams. This success caught the attention of the Cardinals Rugby Conference this past year, opening the Crusaders up to playing some of the nation’s biggest college teams, including Duke University this Saturday.
The Crusaders will enter Duke’s home pitch with a current record of 5-3, after defeating the University of Mary Washington, the College of William and Mary, and James Madison University this past fall.
Duke enters the game in the midst of the NSCRO national playoffs, after clinching the Mid-South Qualifier in November. This April, they will compete in the Mid-Atlantic regional championship, as they continue their hunt for the national championship.
After this weekend, the Crusaders will play in the Four Leaf 15s Tournament in New York City, the Cherry Blossom Tournament in Washington, D.C., and the Jeff Hewitt Memorial Tournament, which Christendom won last year without conceding a single point in three games. At home, Christendom will host the University of Richmond and the Franciscan University of Steubenville, the latter for the annual Shield Rugby Match.
