mcguire-icc-2-1Christendom College history professor Dr. Brendan McGuire will lead Northern Virginia residents through the history of the Crusades in an exclusive lecture series on June 14 and 21, at St. John the Apostle Church in Leesburg, Va. Sponsored by the Institute of Catholic Culture, the lecture series is titled “The Crusades: At War for God,” and is free of admission.

The Crusades are one of the most highly debated historical topics of modern times, with various controversial interpretations promulgated by books and movies alike. McGuire is renowned at Christendom and beyond for his firm grasp of the true historical events, and will present the Crusades in an informative light that will prove to be both educational and necessary.

A graduate of Christendom College, McGuire received his doctoral degree in medieval history from Saint Louis University, and in recent years has presented scholarly research on various historical topics at prestigious regional, national, and international conferences. He is a popular speaker, and has been featured in the past two Christendom College biennial summer conferences, most recently speaking on “Historical Scholarship in the Thought of John Henry Newman” this past summer. He has taught both history and classical languages at the undergraduate level, and he currently teaches courses on the Ancient Biblical World, Early Modern Europe, Late Antique & Medieval Europe, and the Reconquista and Crusades.

McGuire’s lectures will begin at 7:30 p.m. on both June 14 and June 21, with live broadcasts beginning on the Institute of Catholic Culture’s website at the same time.
