Christendom College will welcome hundreds of alumni back to its Front Royal, Va., campus for Homecoming Weekend, held this year from October 7-9. Featuring numerous, alumni-themed events, such as class reunions, a family fun day, and the 37th annual East vs. West football game, Homecoming Weekend is now open for registration through September 30.
“Homecoming is the chance to relive your old memories — the ones that made Christendom your Christendom, during your time at the college. Come celebrate with us, and take full advantage of the natural beauty of campus, the camaraderie with alumni and renew the spiritual roots that tie us all together as a family. Relive your favorite Christendom moments, and create some new ones as well,” says assistant director of alumni and donor relations Vince Criste.
This year’s Homecoming Weekend is open to all alumni, with special attention paid to the classes of 1986, 1996, and 2006, who are celebrating their 30, 20, and 10-year reunions, respectively. The weekend will kick off on Friday, October 7, with the alumnae vs. students volleyball game and the men’s alumni vs. students basketball game in Crusader Gymnasium. Following the matches, students, alumni, faculty, and staff will retreat to a new community Holy Hour in Christ the King Chapel, followed by a relaxed networking social in the college’s St. Kilian’s Café.
Alumnus Fr. Zach Akers, FSSP, (’05) will offer a Solemn High Mass on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel, prior to the many Saturday afternoon events. There will be a variety of activities, including the expanded alumni family fun day on Crusader field, featuring a moon bounce, pony rides, face painting, helium balloons, grilled foods, popcorn, cotton candy, and more. All of the activities will take place during men’s and women’s home soccer games against Johnson and Wales University, giving alumni the opportunity to reconnect with other alumni, faculty, and staff during the games.
That evening, the Classes of 1986, 1996, and 2006 will celebrate their 30, 20, and 10-year reunions with privately catered receptions in St. John the Evangelist Library. Following the class reunions, all alumni are welcome to attend the Warren H. Carroll Alumni Reception in the Chapel Crypt, where they will partake in fine foods, beverages, and conversations with fellow alumni and members of the faculty and staff. While the reception is going on, the annual Homecoming Dance will be held in St. Lawrence Commons, featuring live music from Yesterday Swing Orchestra.
On Sunday afternoon, to conclude the weekend, the college community will flock to Campion Field to watch the 37th annual East vs. West football game. There will also be family-friendly activities for children and adults on Sunday afternoon.
Limited on-campus babysitting is available for families at minimal charge as well. For more information and to register for Homecoming Weekend, please visit christendom.edu/alumni/homecoming/.
