Christendom College’s student body will gather in the college’s Christ the King Chapel this weekend to offer forty consecutive hours of devotion, in honor of the college’s 40th anniversary celebrations this year.

The college’s chaplaincy regularly offers all-night adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on the first Friday of every month, but they wanted to take that regular event to the next level during the anniversary month of the college.

First Friday adoration is one of the most popular events at Christendom. For the college’s anniversary month, the chaplaincy is taking it to the next level with 40 hours of devotion.

The forty hours of devotion will begin with a Solemn Mass at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 1, followed by a Holy Hour. The Holy Hour will feature beautiful Gregorian chant from Christendom’s choir, and will be followed by a talk and social in the college’s St. Kilian’s Café. Following the social, students, faculty, and staff will remain in the Chapel throughout the weekend.

First Friday all-night adoration, also known as Laudamus Te Fridays, is one of the most popular events at the college during the academic year. Students pack into the Chapel for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, spending their Friday nights in a manner very different from most of the college culture.

Christendom’s 40th anniversary occurs on September 14, 2017. The college is hosting a multitude of events throughout the year in honor of the anniversary, including an academic convocation and fireworks extravaganza on campus on September 9 and the 40th Anniversary Gala at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., on April 14, 2018, where Francis Cardinal Arinze will serve as Honorary Chairman and Senator and Mrs. Rick Santorum will act as Chairmen of the Dinner Committee.
