The 2017 National Champion Crusaders picked up right where they left off in their rugby home opener on Saturday, defeating University of Maryland Baltimore County 32-12. The win launched a perfect weekend for Christendom Athletics, with Lady Crusader soccer defeating Warren Wilson and Lady Crusader Volleyball winning a tri-match in their home opener.
The Crusaders, coming off a tie in their season opener rugby game against Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), finished their first half down 10-12, with UMBC finding key holes to take the lead. The Crusaders came out fiercely in the second half, quickly taking the lead and then never looking back the rest of the match. With the win, the Crusaders retained their top position in the CCRC North standings.

Lady Crusader soccer entered their match coming off a 3-0 victory against Patrick Henry, and aimed to wow the home crowd once again after the exciting rugby match. After falling down 0-1 to Warren, Anna Solitario gave the Lady Crusaders a tie in the second half, before giving them the lead late into the game and ultimately the win. The Lady Crusaders are now 4-4 on their season.
Lady Crusader volleyball wrapped up the afternoon, looking to build off a much-needed win against Washington Adventist last week. Finally playing at home for the first time this season, the Lady Crusaders played strong defeating Trinity University and Mid-Atlantic Christian in straight sets to win the tri-match. After starting off 2-7, the Lady Crusaders have fought closer to .500 with a 5-7 record.
Crusader Cross-Country, in their second full season, finished strong in a meet at Shenandoah University, with the men’s team finishing 11th and the women’s 13th.
