Christendom will continue its 40th anniversary celebrations with homecoming weekend, to be held October 6-8. The three-day event, which is expected to draw a record-setting crowd of alumni, will feature a fireworks-spectacular, an exclusive sit-down dinner and dance, class reunions, the 8th annual Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Golf Tournament, and more.

Homecoming will be extra special this year, due to the college’s 40th anniversary.

“Homecoming has always been a special time for the college, and this year it will be even more so, thanks to the 40th anniversary,” says director of alumni and donor relations Vince Criste. “We have so many special activities planned, particularly a special dinner and dance, punctuated by a fireworks display, and we can’t wait to welcome alumni back to campus.”

The weekend will begin with the 8th annual Thomas S. Vander Woude Golf Tournament on Friday, which raises money for the college’s athletic scholarships. Following the tournament, there will be an alumni holy hour in the college’s Christ the King Chapel that evening, before alumni walk to Crusader Gymnasium for alumni sports night. The festivities will open with the raising of the Crusader rugby national championship banner, a first for the college, followed by alumni volleyball and basketball games. The evening will conclude with a social in St. Kilian’s Café.

The alumni vs. students games will kick off Homecoming Weekend.

On Saturday, an alumni family fun day will be held on Crusader field for most of the afternoon. The college’s varsity soccer teams will compete against Shaw University, with a moon bounce, pony rides, and face-painting on hand as well. In the gym, a women’s volleyball tournament will also be played.

The highlight of Homecoming begins as dusk falls, with class reunions for the classes of 2007, 1997, and 1987 occurring in St. John the Evangelist library. Then, the 40th Anniversary Warren H. Carroll Alumni Dinner Dance Reception will begin in St. Lawrence Commons, with a cocktail hour, buffet dinner, fireworks, and dancing concluding an evening the college will never forget.

Fireworks will illuminate the night sky on Saturday.

Homecoming will conclude on Sunday with the 38th annual East vs. West flag football game on Campion Field.

Tickets are available for all Homecoming events, but only limited space is left for the dinner and dance on Saturday evening. A new $10 ticket option is now open for the 2nd half of the evening, featuring fireworks and the dance.
