Christendom’s December 1 Early Action Application deadline was an historic one – bringing in the most applications ever during the early application process. The college is aiming to enroll 160 new students in the fall, for a total undergraduate enrollment of 498. This would signify a 2% increase over last year’s enrollment goal, giving the college a 28% growth in enrollment since fall 2012. With the record 259 early action applications already received, it appears that the college may be on target to reach that goal this year.
“We have been greatly blessed this year,” says vice president for enrollment Tom McFadden, “in that we had a record-breaking number of students enroll in our Experience Christendom Summer Program, which has, in turn, led to more applications. Over 60% of this year’s applicants attended a summer program, which shows the value of the admissions office’s efforts each summer. In a time when most college enrollments are shrinking – due to financial woes or a lack of differentiating – Christendom is moving forward, offering the time-tested Catholic liberal arts to today’s young people who are so in need of the educational experience we offer.”
Christendom’s yield rate – which is the percentage of accepted students who end up enrolling at the college – has been on the rise over the past number of years as well, jumping from 41% to near 50% in just a year. McFadden believes that this rise in demand stems from the college’s challenge to today’s high school students to embrace their God-given calls to greatness and pursue the arduous good of a liberal arts education.
“We are searching for students who want to shun mediocrity and ‘dare to be great,’ as our tagline states,” says McFadden, “and we are finding that students are encouraged by our message of hope, in a time when there is much to be discouraged about in the media and culture and in our schools. Christendom is not your typical degree-granting factory. No, we are preparing the next generation of Catholic leaders who will go out into the world as faithful and knowledgeable Catholics, and get involved in every professional field possible to help achieve the goal which our founder, Dr. Warren Carroll, set out for us 40 years ago – to restore all things in Christ.”
The registration for the 2018 Experience Christendom Summer Program, referred to as The Best Week Ever, opened on December 1, after which the college has already filled 10% of the available spots, and applications to the college for the fall continue to flood in, in anticipation of the March 1 regular application deadline. With the unique Scholarship Price Match Program in place, the annual full-tuition scholarship competition set for March 17, 2018, and full-tuition scholarships being offered to National Merit Scholarship finalists, the college is in a good position to have its best year ever, and even improve the academic quality of its highest SAT scoring class this past year, who scored an average of 1240.
Current high school seniors interested in becoming a Christendom Crusader in the fall and who have not yet made a campus visit can earn either a $100 check or a $500 scholarship when they visit campus between now and March 31, 2018.
