A new scholarship opportunity is now available at Christendom for the fall of 2018: the St. Cecilia Choral Scholarship. The one-year scholarship will be awarded to a man (tenor or bass) and a woman (soprano or alto) who meet the requirements of the scholarship, earning them a reduction in tuition and voice lessons throughout the year.

The one-year scholarship will be awarded to a man (tenor or bass) and a woman (soprano or alto) who meet the requirements of the scholarship.

Christendom attracts an array of musically-talented students each year, who often take part in the college’s choir and other fine arts offerings. Now, they have the opportunity to be further awarded for their skills and grow further in their talents while at Christendom. The winners of the vocal scholarships will each receive $4,500 in tuition reduction and $1,500 toward voice lessons throughout the year.

The scholarship is the brainchild of Dr. Kurt Poterack, director of the college’s choir, Schola Gregoriana, and coordinator of the Beato Fra Angelico Fine Arts Program. He is looking for candidates that have a certain set of required skills, apply for general admission for the fall of 2018, and who successfully complete the detailed application process.

The winners will be expected to attend sectional and full rehearsals throughout the year, sing at Sunday Mass and First Friday Holy Hour, assist at weekday Masses, sing in the Palestrina chamber choir and perform other duties that will be discussed at the interview.

Interested applicants must complete a registration form, and submit it along with a video recording for prescreening purposes. The best candidates will be invited to campus to give a live audition this coming April.
