Christendom students joined Diocese of Arlington Bishop Michael Burbidge to protest the evils of abortion this past weekend, as part of the college’s annual spring Mega Shield event. Praying outside of an abortion clinic in Falls Church, Virginia, the students and the bishop prayed rosaries and more on Saturday morning, offering a prayerful witness to all present.

Dozens of students, faculty, and staff prayed for an end to abortion at Mega Shield.

Christendom’s Shield of Roses pro-life group sends 15-20 students to pray in front of an abortion clinic every Saturday morning during the semester, but holds a “Mega Shield” event once a semester as well, inviting the entire college community to take part. Following suit with last spring’s Mega Shield event, Christendom took part in Bishop Burbidge’s Mass for the Gift of Life beforehand, showing unity with their local bishop.

Students, faculty, and staff were among the large crowd for this year’s event — an encouraging sign for Shield of Roses president Chloe Herrmann.

“I think it definitely helps the pro-life cause,” said Herrmann, in an interview with the Arlington Catholic Herald. “Statistics have shown that the more people that stand outside an abortion clinic the less people go in. Having the showing today especially coinciding with the Bishop’s Mass was just a really great witness. It’s just really important to defend those who can’t defend themselves.”
